CHILDREN’S BOOK DRIVE

posted Sep 30, 2014, 6:34 PM by Web Admin
The Social Ministry Team in conjunction with The Children’s Garden is collecting new or gently used children’s books throughout the month of September to donate to a local organization known as PROJECT SHARE based in Carlisle. PROJECT SHARE will take our donations and put them on display at their holiday dinner in early December. The children who attend this event can go shopping that night and pick out any books they want and take them home for their reading enjoyment!

PROJECT SHARE (Survival Help and Recipient Education) is an interfaith cooperative effort, begun in 1985, involving over 66 local congregations, schools, and civic organizations. Contributions of food, money, and volunteerism provide essential basic assistance to more than 1000 families each month.Assistance is provided in the communities of Carlisle, Carlisle Springs, Mt. Holly Springs, Boiling Springs, Gardners, Plainfield, New Kingstown, and Middlesex. Of those needing assistance, about 20% are seniors and nearly 30% are children.

So, clean out your bookshelves and help us promote and encourage reading! At the end of September the Social Ministry Team will deliver the books you have donated to the PROJECT SHARE warehouse. Bins for book donations will be labeled and available in the narthex and in designated areas of the Day Care building beginning in September. If you need further information or have any questions, please contact Jen Shuey at 652-2648 or e-mail at jrshuey13@verizon.net.
